I had actually read two of these stories before, having purchased the single editions when they came out, so was excited to read the rest of the stories that complete this trade. My favourites were probably the first and last st Thanks to NetGalley for an e-ARC of this in exchange for an honest review.
My favourites were probably the first and last stories, but I felt some of the others were lacking in something, there was nothing in particular wrong with any of them, just didn't catch my attention in quite the same way.
‘Dream Daddy’: This gay dad dating simulator sounds like a joke — but it’s surprisingly earnest
I had a fun time reading this and enjoyed seeing my fave dad Craig obviously again and would definitely recommend to fans of the game and people who have never played alike- enjoyable for all to fill an hour or so! Mar 13, Basma rated it liked it Shelves: I was surprised to learn that this was a game. I love when things branch out to comics! This comic provides different stories of single dads and their relationships with each other and their daughters. There is romance, games, father-daughter activities, vampire vibes and friendship.
It was cute and sweet. There are different art styles in here and I think this was really great to contrast the different stories My main complaint about this is I wish there was more to each of their stories. I felt I was surprised to learn that this was a game. I felt like it was cut short the moment the story started to pick-up. Also, considering the name I expected more romance-dating was very little of that.
Wait, back up. What’s a dating simulator? How do you play "Dream Daddy"?
I received a free e-book copy of this title from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Mar 19, Devann rated it it was amazing Shelves: I love the Dream Daddy game so it's always nice to see new related content for it. This book is made up of five short stories featuring the dads from the game and their kids [and a couple of different cute dadsonas]. They were all really fun and have the same great dialogue that I love from the game, but the one where Robert thinks that Damien is an actual vampire was definitely my favorite. I would totally read more volumes of this if they decide to write more!
Mar 12, Niki rated it it was ok. The stories went nowhere without even being entertaining and the various art styles were conflicting, making the changes between chapters jarring. Reading the "behind the scenes" content in the end was very illuminating, though.
I'm sad it didn't work for me. All opinions are my own.

Mar 19, iam rated it really liked it Shelves: The stories work best when you know the game and are already familiar with the characters, especially their quirks and who is who both the dads, their children and other side characters.
Each comic is written and drawn by different artists in a wide variety of different styles - there should be something for everyone in there. Each stor 3.

Each story is charming in its own way, though some I ended up liking more than others. My favourite story by far was the first one, Much Abird about Nothing. They were nice and easy to read, but I didn't get much from them. While some of the comics feature the customizable player character as designed by the artists personally, other only feature the existing dads in the game.
Overall a lovely extension of the Dad Dating Simulator that is quick and fun to read! I received an ARC and reviewed voluntarily. View 1 comment. Mar 08, Helen rated it really liked it Shelves: I received an e-arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you as always to Netgalley for sending this to me! If you're unaware, the purpose of Dream Daddy is simple: Date other hot dads.
Find true love. This book is super fun and a really great read. Rather than centering on romance, it mostly develops the friendship between the dads and their kids, which was awesome considering that the original game was so romance-focused. The Dads felt authentic and in-character considering their in-game personalities, and I had so much fun reading about their adventures. Something interesting about this graphic novel was that they didn't stick with just one art-style.
There were a bunch of different artists collaborating on this project and it gave each individual story its own awesome feel.
Art style is usually a make or break for me with graphic novels - what can I say? I'm superficial - but surprisingly one of my favourite stories was "Fair Deal," which follows ultra-competitive Brian and his daughter Daisy, who is desperate not to be embarrassed by her dad trying to help her win the school science fair again. I wasn't totally sold on the art at first because it seemed a bit over-simplified for my tastes, but the story was so solid that by the end I found myself loving the art style too!
My other favourite story was 'Dungeons and Daddies,' because it was such great nerdy fun and we got to see the dads in a more fantastical setting in some really quite hilarious outfits. This story had the best art for me, but it also had a great, silly plotline that I just adored. This book also has great diversity. Not only are all the dads queer, but a number of them are also POC, they have a great range of body types and I also learned that my favourite dad, Damien, is trans - which I totally didn't pick up on - but the trans rep is own voices; Lee C. A, who worked on Damien's story, is a trans man, so that's always nice to see.
I would advise people to check out the authors' and artists' notes in the back because I actually really enjoyed reading them and found them super interesting. Not that issue-driven stories aren't important too, but sometimes people just want to exist. I had the best time reading this and will definitely be picking up a copy of the book myself when it comes out in May!
Feb 25, Ije the Devourer of Books rated it really liked it. This colorful graphic novel is based on the Dream Daddy game. I haven't played the game but this graphic novel is a volume of five comics based on characters from the game. I liked the graphic novel and I enjoyed reading it but I thought the stories were a bit too short and could have explored the characters in more depth than they did. My favorite story was the first story in the volume This colorful graphic novel is based on the Dream Daddy game. My favorite story was the first story in the volume which features two dads who brave their university reunion together and end up closer by the end of the night.
The comics are not really romantic as such but have strong themes of community and friendship, and a frisson of romance. I really liked the artwork in this graphic novel. The coloring is bright and with a nice balance between text and graphics. Even though I thought the stories were short, the final story brings all the characters together for an evening games and bonding session which emphasizes the importance of community to all these different men as they bring up their families on their own in the town of Maple Bay. It is a comic that portrays single life without being focused on sex or desperate loneliness.
It was pleasant to read and I am glad I discovered it. I think this will be a great volume to have if you play the Dream Daddy game and for those of us who haven't played it this might be a good time to check it out.

For the most part they're endearingly low-stakes, though the one in which two of the dads get competitive over their kids' science fair projects did at times make me want to join the offspring in hiding under the table. Bless Oni for their continuing commitment to off-kilter romance comics. Although British indie types of a certain age may be saddened by the open goal of Gay Dad references being entirely ignored.
Look, the other dating sim she's into is about pigeons and genocide, so compared to that I find Dream Daddy adorably wholesome.
Netgalley ARC Mar 13, Nik rated it liked it Shelves: I've seen a YouTube playthrough for it, and I figured it would be a fun, quick read. That, it was. Overall, I won't say that it was groundbreaking or phenomenal, but it kept me entertained, for the most part. This graphic novel is made up of 5 short stories. Personally, the second one was my favorite.

Robert thinking Damien was a real life vampire and t 3. Robert thinking Damien was a real life vampire and trying to hunt him? Absolute gold. In order of my most to least favorite of the stories, I have to go with 2 1 4 3 5 Honestly 5 didn't do much for me, maybe because it was Dungeons and Dragons inspired, and I have no experience with that game, but I found myself skimming over it just to complete the bind up. Overall, it was a fun read, and if you're a fan of the game I'd recommend it.

Mar 20, Veronica rated it liked it. ARC via Netgalley. So first of all I've never played Dream Daddy and going into this book, I was only vaguely aware of the plot of the game you're a single dad and there's a lot of other single dads in your neighborhood that you can woo, right? So that was kind of disappointing.
