Gay dating morocco

It was a little out of our price range Dhs per night but we treated ourselves as it really was wonderful and we were won over by Madame's elegant style and her impeccably polite French! Spent two nights in Marrakech mostly within the Medina by day and on the Djemaa at night. We then abandoned our plans to explore the mountains as Madame assured us it would be freezing, and instead took a bus to Agadir - partly because my Grandma was born and brought up there. It was a bit disappointing really; an ugly resort town devoid of any character, with just the occasional silent German couple eating limp-looking schnitzels in 80's looking restaurants festooned with neon!

We basically did a day there and then decided to head from the hills, to Tafaroute, but we couldn't find any bus or grand taxi to take us there, despite the useless Lonely Planet's assurance that there were loads! It was a blessing in disguise actually, as we ended up in Mirleft - a small coastal village with a slightly hippy air south of Agadir - which was absolutely stunning; great food, scenery and gorgeous sunny weather. Spent a whole day on the beach just getting some vitamin D into our systems! Regarding the gay issue - no problems at all, though you'd probably have assumed we were just mates travelling together, as we avoided all PDAs!

Madame gave us twin beds, but other places we stayed at just gave us doubles without asking! Hope this is interesting to others thinking of heading to Morocco. Can't stress enough what a fantastic time we had! I wish more people who ask us questions on here would come back as you did and post their trip report.

It's great to see that you had a good trip. I like Mirleft too. In the summer Yes I can definately recommend Mirleft - absolutely stunning. In summer I can imagine it can be ferociously hot!

Definatly going to return to Morocco one day - maybe do the north like Fez and the Rif Mountains. Couple of questions Also what about gay-firendly bars or clubs? Also, any suggestions for Tangier? Right regarding Hammams, me and my bf got the handyman at our riad to take us to a locals' one in the medina old town. It was totally unmarked and you'd have to ask locals to show you where it was.

We just got on the plane back to London straight afterwards and fell asleep! I can really recommend doing this over a tourist oriented hammam which will apparently be just like a spa in the West. Ask any local and I'm sure they or someone they know will take you. You shouldn't go on your own if you've never been to one tho - the etiquette needs to be explained and besides they are usually quite tucked away!

You should also tip whoever takes you - we gave our man 50 Dh for looking after us. Regarding gay friendly bars in Marrakech - the question should be can you recommend ANY bar in Marrakech!! Unless you're an upmarket tourist staying in a big international hotel, bars serving alcohol are pretty hard to find. The Ville Nouvelle has a scattering but even the ones recommended in the the Lonely Planet had mysteriously vanished. Just ask around. Rumour has it that the Diamont Noir nightclub has a gay following, but as Morrocco is a Muslim country, this kind of thing is pretty hush-hush!

Nass, who was released sometime later, was known by authorities to be gay, or at least, very heavily suspected of such in a country where homosexuality is illegal. So when he showed on the sidewalk with another guy whose age difference would make even New Yorkers do a double-take , it wasn't hard for the police to put two and two together even if nothing was "going on. After that very long set-up, I should say that this article is not about the Moroccan legal system, or even its draconian views on same-sex relationships -- those are their own articles. Rather, it is a very practical, if on the surface cruel, highlight to not get involved with natives.

Let me explain. You may remember the Google commercial " Parisian Love " documenting an expat's romance with a Frenchwoman with whom he lives happily ever after in Paris.

Very sweet. But the fact of the matter is that we do not live in Google although we try or France although we try. But while a little Franco-American action never hurt anyone, there are some countries where you take your life into your hands getting into a same-sex relationship. And it is not just Morocco, which is actually one of the more liberal Muslim countries in the Arab world.

But a few go even further and try to root us out, using spy tactics and even double agents.

It's called different things in different countries. Most often, they are simply called "mutaween. Hijabs on women, beards on men, no alcohol, no mingling between men and women -- different states may have different variations, but these organizations are pervasive wherever they are. As a Westerner, or even if you are from the Far East, you will stick out like a sore thumb regardless, and you will be, if not watched directly, "paid attention to.
