God bless. Thanks CBJ. It seems that the search for love knows no boundaries. I live in a small, conservative town, and no gay bars or clubs. So, I don't have to try to avoid them. I do enjoy visiting gay clubs when I travel to larger cities, and have met some nice people and remain friends with a couple I met in a club in Atlanta several years ago. I'm a 60 year old man, searching for a partner. As I have aged, I've come to understand that the man I hope to meet is not a supermodel but is emotionally available, mature and kind.

And, I remain optimistic that I'll meet him. In the meantime, I try to stay healthy, active and social. My friends and my family mean so much to my happiness, and I plan to invite my partner to that group. Many probably won't want to hear this, but this sagely advice is still true: You can't love someone until you can love yourself. A problem in the gay community is we often have high expectations with little room for flexibility.

Curbing idealizations is key to finding sustainable partnerships. There's no doubt the conventionally hot, bearded, chiseled man is yummy, but these men represent a small subset of the gay community; prioritizing the Adonis who has his own problems and insecurities, too, mind you won't get you into a loving relationship. The proclivity of gay men to value physical attractiveness over emotional intelligence and communication is short-sighted. Good looks WILL fade; the foundations you've built with someone who's been with you through your deepest lows is what makes a relationship.
